TL;DR: Over Labor Day weekend 2026, the leader of the free world didn’t rest, read a policy brief, or spend time with family. Instead, Donald Trump posted over 60 times on Truth Social in a single day—mostly AI-generated fever dreams of himself as a robot-commanding, horse-riding, nuclear-strike-launching god-king. He is renaming international lakes out of spite, building a $1.4 billion vanity arch that looks like a Roman emperor’s wet dream, fabricating heroic 9/11 rescue fantasies, sending the DOJ after anyone who ever audited his tax returns, and bombing foreign boats without asking Congress. This isn’t “owning the libs.” Owning the libs has a point. This is a man broadcasting an unfiltered grandiose fantasy from the office that controls the nuclear codes, while his sycophants applaud rather than call for a welfare check.

Okay, let’s talk about what happens when a collapsing empire decides to trade functional government for the unhinged ego trip of a singular, fading emperor.

When historians look back at the final chapters of dying super-states, they don’t usually find brilliant grand strategies or heroic last stands. They find a court full of terrified sycophants applauding a demented leader who thinks he’s the center of the universe.

As journalist Chris Hedges famously framed it, cult leaders exist in a bulletproof bubble: “Cult leaders are immune from rational and fact-based critiques amongst those who invest hope in them... they demand obsequious adulation and total obedience.” But the real danger isn’t just the delusion—it’s that when a cult leader captures the presidency, he has zero restraints left. He can force his wildest, most unhinged desires right into the real world using the full power of the state.

That isn’t just a psychological profile. That is America’s actual governing model today.

The Doomscroll of a God-King

If you want to know who is running the country, look no further than Labor Day weekend 2026. While normal people were grilling hot dogs, the Commander-in-Thief posted more than 60 times on Truth Social in a single 24-hour period.

And what was he sharing with the nation? A parade of AI-generated fan art depicting himself riding a stallion beside George Washington, commanding an army of killer robots (seriously, what is his weird obsession with killer robots?), launching an orbital nuclear strike on Earth, grafting his face onto Hulk Hogan’s torso, and painting a giant American flag over a map that annexed Canada, Mexico, Greenland, Iceland, and Central America.

In August alone, the tracking logs showed over 1,000 posts. Republican strategist Gregg Nunziata watched the feed and posted a simple, exhausted: “Lord help us.” Progressive commentators called it what it was: an unmediated online mental health episode.

This isn’t political strategy. It’s a man with his finger on the nuclear trigger broadcasting an unfiltered, grandiose fantasy from the Oval Office—and the well-paid handlers around him are cheering him on instead of taking away his phone.

The Compulsion to Slap His Name on Everything

When a dictator gets bored of reading briefings he can’t understand, he starts renaming things. It’s an insecure bully’s version of leaving a mark on the world.

First it was the Gulf of Mexico becoming the “Gulf of America.” Then Denali got stripped back to Mount McKinley. Then the Department of Defense was rebranded the “Department of War.”

And then came the petty schoolyard taunts. In February 2025, Trump slapped a 25% tariff on Canada, kicking off a spiraling trade war. By August 2026, he decided to unilaterally rebrand Lake Ontario as “Lake America”—calling Canadians “nasty people” and pretending he could single-handedly rename a body of water shared by two sovereign nations. Apple and Google map divisions jumped to update their software like dutiful courtiers, even though the name change has zero legal force outside U.S. federal documents. Then he called for renaming New Mexico as if he’s drawing on a map with a Sharpie.

He even floated renaming the Strait of Hormuz—an international waterway he has zero legal authority over—to the “Trump Strait,” before shrugging it off as something he just “threw out there.”

Then came the Kennedy Center. After purging its bipartisan board and installing himself as chairman in late 2025, he engineered a vote to rebrand the national cultural institution as the “Trump-Kennedy Center.” A federal judge eventually ordered his name stripped off the facade. Today, scaffolding still covers the building while he threatens to tear the whole thing down if he can’t have his name on the marquee.

Monuments to a Fragile Ego

Naturally, renaming existing buildings isn’t enough; he has to build new ones with your money.

Under active construction at Memorial Circle—right between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery—is a 250-foot triumphal arch. It is taller than the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, being built without any planning approvals, and currently facing a lawsuit from Vietnam War veterans and architectural historians who point out it lacks congressional authorization and completely destroys the historic sightlines of our national monuments.

Add in a $1.4 billion tab for a new White House ballroom, a green-algae-bloomed redesign of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, and a reconstructed golf course in East Potomac Park that swallows up public running paths.

And let’s not forget the branding on public assets: his name and face are now stamped on “Trump Accounts” for kids, $1 million “Trump Gold Cards” for visa applicants, the National Parks pass, and a new 2026 commemorative coin—all of which violate federal laws against self-aggrandizement on official currency and property.

The Fabricated Hero of 9/11

A classic symptom of a narcissist in decline is that their personal mythology has to keep getting bigger, even if it requires rewriting history.

On the eve of the 25th anniversary of 9/11 in 2026, Trump spoke at a Tunnel to Towers event and spun a brand-new, heroic tale. He claimed that on September 11, 2001, he rushed a “whole crew” of his own employees down to Ground Zero. He alleged that while standing near One Liberty Plaza, two firefighters feared a building collapse, grabbed him under the arms, “literally lifted me up,” and sprinted to safety carrying him like a cinematic action hero.

There is no photo, no video, no record, and no first responder who has ever corroborated this story.

Back in 2016, he claimed he was at Ground Zero “a couple of days” after the attack and made zero mention of being carried. In 2021, he claimed two firemen “moved” him. By 2026, it evolved into two giant firemen physically carrying him through the dust like a damsel in distress. California Governor Gavin Newsom called it “an absolutely disgusting thing to lie about.” The punchline? One Liberty Plaza never suffered structural damage and was never on the verge of collapsing. The building he claims nearly fell on him was never in danger.

The Justice Department as a Personal Hit Squad

When the cult of personality takes over law enforcement, the Justice Department stops prosecuting crime and starts working through the leader’s personal revenge list.

When career DOJ official Erik Siebert told leadership there wasn’t enough legal evidence to charge former FBI Director James Comey or New York AG Letitia James, Trump pushed him out the door. He replaced him with his former personal defense attorney, Lindsey Halligan, who indicted both of Trump’s targets within days.

A federal judge promptly threw out both cases because Halligan was installed illegally. Did that stop them? Of course not. Trump had Comey indicted a second time—this time over a social media photo of seashells arranged to spell “86 47” (a common shorthand for removing the 47th president). Meanwhile, Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis is being hounded with subpoenas over travel records.

This isn’t law enforcement; it’s an authoritarian score-settling service run in reverse.

Undeclared Wars and a Slipping Grip

While he plays emperor at home, he is waging undeclared wars abroad.

Since late 2025, the U.S. military has been launching strikes against small boats in the Caribbean and Pacific, claiming they belong to drug traffickers. Without evidence or congressional approval, these strikes have killed at least 227 people— human rights groups explicitly call this extrajudicial execution. In January 2026, the military struck inside Venezuela and forcibly extradited President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth marked the illegal invasion with a tweet: “Welcome to 2026.” No war declared. No legal justification offered.

And the man ordering all of this is visibly deteriorating. Seymour Hersh reported on a 71-minute speech Trump delivered to military brass at Quantico, writing that it showed “the degeneration of dementia.” In that very speech, Trump rambled off-script to his generals about Joe Biden and stairs: “Every day, the guy’s falling down stairs. I’m very careful... I walk very slowly... Just try not to fall.” At the same time, admitting his own tenuous relationship with stairs.

This isn’t grandpa yelling at the TV. A grandpa yelling at the TV doesn’t have the authority to kidnap foreign heads of state, weaponize the DOJ against his political rivals, or order live-fire strikes in international waters.

What we are watching is a man whose grip on reality is visibly failing, surrounded entirely by handlers who validate his delusions, wielding the most powerful military machine on Earth. It isn’t ideology. It’s a cult of personality running the machinery of state—where national policy is dictated by one man’s endless need for adoration, revenge, and a 250-foot monument with his name stamped on the front.
